Summary: Danny struggles to deal with his past, exploring different avenues to make him forget.

The music was blearing from the two massive speakers situated beside the dj booth, a sea of colours whizzing by as they dance to the music. The bar staff rushed off their feet as drink after drink was ordered by the thirsty dancers. Brightly lights illuminating the place, highlighting all that were in the club. People laughing and sharing kisses, not caring if it was for the night, all out to have a good time, all except one person, who sat at the bar, downing shots quicker than the barman could pour them, getting aggressive when he had to wait on them. Staff wanting to ask him to leave, but not wanting the bad press, after all he is only one of the members of the biggest band in Britain, yes he was Danny Jones, the most lovable member of McFly, the curly haired beauty, the most sought after member.
“Don’t you think you’ve had enough” the barman asks cautiously to Danny
“No I do not, if I did I wouldn’t be ordering more would I?” Danny shouts over the music aggressively, chucking a glass at the innocent man before being lifted from his feet by to muscular men who drag him to the door and slamming it shut in his face. Danny storming home when he realises that they aren’t going to let him back in.

On entering the flat that he shares with his girlfriend, Cheryl and Dougie, he heads straight for the kitchen quietly as he realises that everyone is asleep. Taking a bottle of vodka and a glass he heads in to the living room turning some music on slightly and pouring the clear liquid until it fills half of his glass. Sitting on the sofa Danny looks around the room before his eyes come in to contact with a familiar picture, the picture that he never wanted to be displayed, getting up off the sofa, Danny make his way to the picture and grabbing it from its position on the table next to the telephone. Danny sits back down, the picture firmly grasped in his hand, the memories came flooding back

*flashback*
“Come Danny hurry up, or I am not taking you to the park” his mother called upstairs to him
“I’m coming now” he huffed as he reached the bottom of the stairs before him and his mother headed out. After a few hours of shopping Danny got bored.
“Can we go to the park yet mum?” the ten year old whined.
“Soon I promise” his mother smiled down to him warmly, Danny rolling his eyes at her, she had been saying that for ages he thought to himself.

Finally they made it to the park, Danny playing on the swings, when he noticed two bulky men talking to his mum, worrying about her he slowed down the swing and makes his way over to her, stopping when he heard a gunshot and watching the men run from the park. After a few short minutes Danny turned to the site of his mother lying on the ground, blood pouring from her stomach and covers the light grey stones, making them red. Danny runs over to his mother crying, realising that she wasn’t awake he runs from the park, looking for anyone to help, finally stumbling across to police men that ran to the park with, calling for an ambulance on the way.

Danny sat patiently in the small white waiting room, hoping for his dad to come and look after him, the police told him that he should be there soon. Eventually the door swings open to reveal his father, Danny jumping up and attaching himself onto his dad’s leg.
“Danny, she is dead” his dad whispered, both Danny and his dad crying.
*end flashback*

“Why did you have to die” Danny cries, running his finger over the picture of his mother, marking the glass as he did, “You ruined everything by dying”. Angrily Danny smashes the frame containing the picture on the opposite wall, the glass breaking into loads of tiny pieces. Danny begins to cry into his hands.
“Danny is everything okay” Cheryl asks as she enters the room slowly, before seeing the frame broken on the floor. Danny doesn’t answer his girlfriend, just stares at her, anger building up within. Cheryl begins to clean up the broken glass when Danny doesn’t answer her.
“Just leave it will you” Danny slams his glass on the coffee table in front of him
“It needs to be cleaned up, what happened” Cheryl asks again, still picking up the broken glass.
“I told you to leave it” Danny screams lunging at Cheryl, grabbing her arm and swinging her to the opposite end of the room, “Why can’t you just listen to me” Danny cries, letting go of a shaking Cheryl, pushing her slightly.
“Danny what’s wrong” Cheryl asks cautiously.
“That” Danny says venomously, pointing to the broken frame
“I don’t get it, it just a picture of you and your parents” Cheryl replies confused.
“Yeah, well there is a lot you don’t know” Danny replies.
“Tell me then” Cheryl asks soothingly.
“I can’t, you’d leave me” Danny sighs sadly, fresh tears rolling down his cheek
“I love you Daniel Jones, you can tell me anything” Cheryl smiles slightly at her distressed boyfriend.
“Maybe another time” Danny tries to get her to drop it. Cheryl smiles at Danny knowing not to push him into telling her, he’d tell her eventually she thought to herself.
“Let’s go to bed eh?” Cheryl suggests, Danny nodding his head in agreement. Falling into a restless sleep Danny has one of his many recurring dreams.

*Dream*
“You know why I do this don’t you” the drunk man whispers to the terrified boy sat next to him. The young boy nodding his head, “Speak boy, don’t sit there nodding your head like a dog”.
“It’s...it’s...because...it’s my...fault...she...is dead” the little boy forces out between sobs.
“That’s right, and why can’t you tell anyone” the man enquires to the quivering boy.
“Because...they’d...send...me...to...prison” the boy cries.
“That’s right” The man smiles before standing up, pulling up his jeans and boxers and leaving the room.
*end of dream*

Waking up in a cold sweat, his dream disturbing his slumber, Danny carefully makes his way downstairs, making sure not to wake Cheryl. Entering the kitchen Danny pours himself a large glass of vodka, taking small sips every now and then until it was all gone, before he poured another one. Staring at the clock, Danny realised that it was now 4.30 in the morning, having only had at least 2 hours sleep, sighing Danny downed the remaining clear liquid, before pour another.
“Danny, where are you, oh, there you are, why you sitting in the dark” Cheryl wonder turning the kitchen light on.
“I like the dark” Danny answered simply.
“Okay, why aren’t you asleep, its 4.30 in the morning” Cheryl wondered, noticing the vodka sat in the middle of the table.
“Can’t sleep” Danny sighed, watching Cheryl as she lifted a glass from the draining board and taking the set opposite him, then pouring herself a drink of vodka.
“Want to talk about it?” Cheryl wondered, worrying about him.
“I don’t know if I can” Danny whispers, just loud enough for Cheryl to hear him.
“Well I’m here if you want to talk” Cheryl replies, reaching for his hand, becoming confused when Danny pulled his hand away, before he stood up and standing in front of the sink, staring out of the window that looked on to the garden. Cheryl watched as Danny looked out of the window, unsure of what to do.
“He hated me” Danny said suddenly, after an uncomfortable silence that felt like hours to both, but in reality must have been only a few minutes.
“Who” Cheryl asked confused.
“My dad, he blamed me for mum’s death” Danny admitted, tears threatening to fall.
“What happened to her, Dan, you’ve never told me” Cheryl enquires.
“She was shot” Danny answered, sitting back down. Cheryl doesn’t answer him, not sure what she could say. “We were at the park, I moaned about going all day, if I hadn’t she’d still be alive”.
“You don’t know that” Cheryl tried to comfort him.
“Yes I do, he told me that, he told me that’s why he did what he did” Danny snapped, his tone changing when he said “he”.
“What did he do to you” Cheryl asked carefully, not wanting Danny to clam up.
“I can’t tell you that, you leave me” Danny said, tears slowly sliding down his cheeks.
“No I wouldn’t, I love you Danny, and you can tell me” Cheryl said in a soothing tone. After a short silence, Danny began to tell Cheryl about his life after his mother died, having previously only had told her about when she was alive.
“He used to come into my room at night, and...please don’t make me say it Cheryl, please” Danny began, pleading the last part. Cheryl nodded, holding back the tears once the horrible thought about what Danny had went through.
“He used to tell me that, it was my punishment for letting mum die, that if he didn’t do then I’d have to go to prison” Danny sobbed, Cheryl sobbing too.
“Danny, did you shot her?” Cheryl asked, knowing that the answer she heard would be no.
“No, of course I didn’t, I was ten” Danny raised his voice slightly,
“Well, what your dad told you was lies, and you need to tell the police” Cheryl tried to convince him that he had to do this, that his dad had to pay.
“I can’t, he is my dad” Danny replied
“Okay, maybe we should go back to bed, get some sleep, you’ve got rehearsals in a few hours” Cheryl smiled sadly at Danny before falling him upstairs, cuddling him as they both fell asleep, in one another’s arms, making Danny feel safe.

Waking up in the morning the cold air hits Cheryl, sitting up she smiles when she finds a single red rose and a note on Danny’s pillow, lifting it carefully and reading the note, “Gone to rehearsals, won’t be back until late. Love Danny xxx. Oh and thanks for last night, it helped a lot”. Cheryl smiled as she got out of bed and heading downstairs. Knowing that Danny was worried about how she’d react to his past, Cheryl decides to show Danny how much she loved him, realising that the best option she had has a romantic meal, Cheryl head upstairs got changed and headed for the shops to buy the things she needed. Arriving home a few hours later, Cheryl heard the guys all talking, so she put away her shopping and head to the living room. On entering the living room Cheryl was disappointed that Danny wasn’t there.
“Where is Danny” she asked the others, startling them as they hadn’t noticed her enter.
“Went out, said he wanted space, that you and him had an argument last night” Harry replied, his eyes never leaving the TV. Cheryl was shocked by Harry’s statement and went to question it when Dougie spoke.
“Ahh, that’s what all the banging and shouting was about then” Upset Cheryl runs upstairs slamming the bedroom door shut and begins to cry. Cheryl just couldn’t believe Danny would lie like that, just so he could go out, she was angry at him, but also worried, what if he did something stupid, she thought, she had to find him.

Heading frantically downstairs bursting through to the living room where the others sat, Cheryl searched for her mobile.
“Where are you going” Dougie asked noticing Cheryl had her coat and shoes on.
“To find Danny” she answered, still looking for her mobile
“Why” Harry asked, laughing slightly
“Because I need to” Cheryl snapped
“If he wanted to talk to you he would have come home wouldn’t he” Harry stated more than asked
“There is stuff you don’t know” Cheryl groaned.
“Do you want help looking for him” Emma asked, Cheryl smiled gratefully at her best friend, thankful that someone was willing to help her.
Eventually Cheryl finds her mobile then heading of with Emma, Jennie coming too. After walking around for a while, the girls stop to have think of any other place to try.
“You got no other ideas of where he’d go, where you go when you go out together?” Jennie asked.
“We don’t” Cheryl whispered.
“You don’t go out” Jennie replied shocked. Cheryl shakes her head, it always upset Cheryl that Danny never took her out with him.
“Okay, so what about his parents?” Emma suggests
“His mum is dead and he doesn’t get on with his dad” Cheryl replied, hoping that no questions would be asked.
“Okay, what about brothers or sisters?” Jennie asks
“Yeah I could try Sophie” Cheryl said, pulling out her mobile and calling Danny’s sister.

“Yeah, so I was thinking, why don’t we go back to yours?” Danny shouted over the music to Katy, winking at her making her giggle, she was under his spell.
“You do, do you?” Katy teased, leaning over the table and kissing him softly on his lips. “I think we should dance first” she said after the kiss pulling Danny up and dragging him to the dance floor. Katy dances seductively with Danny, teasing him, making him want her even more. Danny moves closer to Katy, kissing her passionately on the lips, the kiss lasting a few minutes. Pulling away from the kiss Danny takes Katy’s hand in his and begins making his way to the door, only to stop.
“Cheryl” Danny whispers his eyes locking with Cheryl’s.
“How could you” Cheryl screamed at him, making some people stop and look at them. Abbi and Jennie try to get Cheryl to leave.
“Its not what it looks like” Danny attempts to lie to her, pulling his hand from Katy’s and walking over to Cheryl. Before he could get to her Cheryl turned and ran from the building, Emma and Jennie chasing after her. Danny attempted to run after her to only to be stopped by an angry Katy.
“Who is she?” Katy asked, not really wanting to know
“She is my girlfriend” Danny admitted to a devastated Katy, tear pouring from her eyes.
“I…I…thought…I was…your…girlfriend” Katy stuttered the tears interrupting her speech. Danny stood at stared at Katy, unsure of what to say, after a few minutes Katy ran from the club, just like Cheryl had done.

Slamming the door to the flat shut Cheryl grabbed a bottle of vodka from the kitchen and headed to the living room, taking a massive drink from the bottle.
“You find him” Tom asked her as she swallowed another drink from the bottle.
“Unfortunately” Cheryl snapped, tear falling from her eyes.
“Hey what’s wrong” Dougie asked wrapping his arm around her, as Jennie and Emma entered.
“he…he” Cheryl started before sobbing
“He was with another girl” Emma said angrily as she sat and tried to comfort her best friend. Everyone sat shocked at what Emma had told them.
“Well, it’s only what you deserve, you never leave him alone” Harry snipped, he always hated Cheryl.
“Harry, shut up you idiot” Tom snapped.
“Yeah Harry if you aint got anything helpful to say then just shut up” Dougie shouted angrily at Harry. Harry got up and stormed off. After a silence everyone was stunned when Danny walked through the door.
“Cheryl, we need to talk please” Danny pleaded.

Cheryl makes her way upstairs and walks into the bedroom her and Danny share. She stands in front of the window and stares out of it, a stray tear falls from her eye, gently hitting her arm. Danny enters the room after her, unsure of what to say, but knowing that he has to think of something.
“I am sorry” Danny mumbled, watching Cheryl.
“Your sorry, well that’s okay then” Cheryl shouted, shocking Danny, before another silence.
“How long?” Cheryl whispers
“Does it matter” Danny asks
“Yes it matters to me, otherwise I wouldn’t have asked would I?” Cheryl snaps turning looking at Danny waiting for answer. “Answer me” Cheryl screams when she doesn’t get an answer
“About two months” Danny whispers, scared of how Cheryl will react.
“Two months” Cheryl laughs sarcastically.
“It didn’t mean anything” Danny replied pathetically.
“Well that makes everything better” Cheryl laughed, grabbing a suitcase from under the bed and putting some clothes into it.
“You cant leave” Danny pleads, as he begins to cry
“Why not, its not like you care, is it?” Cheryl snaps, grabbing more clothes from the wardrobe.
“I do, I love you, please stay” Danny cries stopping Cheryl. Cheryl looks into Danny’s eyes, both of them crying.
“Why do it” Cheryl asks still looking into Danny’s eyes, Danny shrugs.
“I was confused, you don’t get how it feels” Danny tries to explain.
“That’s no excuse, I know it must be hard, but I cant stay, you’ve really hurt me” Cheryl cries, explaining why she has to go.
“Will you come back” Danny cries too
“If you can show me that I can trust you, if you prove this will never happen again” Cheryl tells Danny.
“I’ll do it, I promise” Danny promises, “I love you more than anything” Danny says as Cheryl lifts her case and leaves the room. Danny sits with his head in his hands as he sobs.

Cheryl goes downstairs and goes into the living room, explaining to them that she is going.
“Where are you going to go?” Jennie asks
“My cousin’s Kayla’s” Cheryl replies, before crying again.
“I’ll drive you” Tom offers
“Thanks” Cheryl croaks, the crying making it difficult for her to speak. Tom nodding and grabbing her case and taking it out to the car, as Cheryl says her goodbyes to Jennie, Emma and Dougie. Leaving Cheryl gets into Tom’s car and gives him directions to Kayla’s before Tom speeds off down the street.

Danny wakes, his head pounding, he has been drinking since Cheryl left.
“Danny are you awake” Dougie calls to him. Danny ignores him and tries to get back to sleep. Dougie opens the door slowly. “Did you drink all that?” he asked noticing the two empty vodka bottles and various cans lying around the room. Danny ignores Dougie again. “Come on dude, this isn’t going to help is it?” Dougie tries.
“Just get lost will you” Danny snaps
“I can’t Dan, you are my best friend, I hate seeing you like this” Dougie replies sadly. Danny rolls his eyes and gets out the bed pulling on some clothes and storming out the flat, leaving Dougie alone.

“Guys, we got to do something, Danny is a mess” Dougie told the others later that day.
“Yeah, but what?” Tom shrugged
“I don’t know, but I am really worried about him” Dougie sighed
“What if one of us talk to Cheryl, try and get her to at least talk to him” Harry suggests.
“Good idea” Tom smiles
“But who?” Dougie asks
“Tom, because he knows where she is” Harry answered
“No, I think harry should, I mean, you don’t like her, so if you go she’ll know it’s serious” Tom explains
“Yeah good point Tom” Dougie nods, both turning to look at Harry.
“Do I need to?” Harry moaned
“Yes” Dougie and Tom replied at the same time. Harry sighed before taking the address down and going to talk to her.

Danny stumbles across to the bar to order another drink.
“Can I have a vodka and coke” he stutters to the barmaid. Grabbing the drink of her he stmbles back across the dance floor, banging to a small brunette girl. Danny doesnt apologise to her, just keeps walking and sits down at an empty table. Danny sits down and is shocked to see the girl sit down in front of him.
"Arent you going to say sorry" She smiles at him.
"Sorry" Danny mumbles to her, praying that she'd leave, he wasnt in the mood to talk to anyone.
"Thats ok, names Vicki" she smiled at him.
"Danny" he groaned
"Not very talkative are you" she giggled
"No i am not" he snapped
"well no need to snap" Vicki said as she stood up
"Wait dont go, i am sorry" Danny smiled, grabbing her wrist
"Okay then" she smiled before sitting back down.
A few hours later Danny takes Vicki back to hers, passion overcome both of them.

Harry nervously walks up to the house that Tom told him he dropped Cheryl off at a few weeks ago. Knocking on the door, Harry waits for an answer. He smiles to the pretty brunette who answers the door.
“I am looking for Cheryl” he smiles at her looking into her dark blue eyes.
“She’s not here” the girl smiled back at Harry.
“Could I wait on her, or will she be long?” Harry asked.
“Sure, come in” The girl answered moving to let Harry in
“I am Harry by the way” he smiled as both of them sat down on opposite chairs in the living room.
“Kayla” she replied
“Nice to meet you” Harry smiled again
“You too” Kayla giggled. Both sat chatting away, swapping numbers before Cheryl arrived back, shocked to see Harry. Kayla leaves both of them alone, sure they have things to talk about.
“What do you want Harry” Cheryl snapped.
“I need to talk to you about Danny” Harry told her.
“Is he okay?” she asked.
“Umm…well no not really” Harry said.
“Why what’s wrong with him” She replied, scared that something terrible had happened to him.
“He isn’t coping, he needs you, he has been drink constantly since you left and we don’t know how to help” Harry explained.
“What do you want me to do about it” Cheryl asked.
“Go home, talk to him, I don’t know” Harry said.
“He cheated on me Harry, I can’t just forget that” Cheryl shouted back.
“I know he did, he regrets it, I’m sure he does, if you just give him the chance to show you” Harry pleaded.
“I can’t, not yet” Cheryl sighed.
“You know, you are a selfish bitch” Harry replied angrily
“What, he was the one that ruined everything, so don’t you dare talk to me like that” Cheryl snapped back angrily.
“I am sorry, I am just worried about him” Harry sighed. An uncomfortable silence settled as both where unsure of what to say to one another.
“I don’t know what to do” Cheryl said as tears fell from her eyes.
“I know it’s hard, but he is in a bad way, I wouldn’t be here otherwise” Harry told her, hugging her. Cheryl sobbed as Harry told her that, making her feel worse.
“I talk to him, but I can’t come home, not yet” She sobbed.
“Great” Harry beamed, “I’ll take you just now if you want”.
“Sure” Cheryl smiled slightly. Both headed out to Harry’s car.
“Why do you hate me” Cheryl asked as Harry started the car.
“I don’t hate you” Harry replied shocked at her question.
“You act like you do then” Cheryl sighed
“Its…its nothing” Harry smiled at her.
“Tell me” Cheryl said
“Well, ok, remember that night you meet Danny?” Harry asked.
“Of course I do” Cheryl smiled at the memory.
“Well, it was me that noticed you first, I pointed you out to Danny” Harry said blushing
“Right, so that’s why you hate me?” Cheryl asked confused.
“Well as I said I don’t hate you, I…I…it’s doesn’t matter anymore” Harry smiled, trying to get her to drop it.
“Tell me” Cheryl said, wanting to find out why he seemed to hate her.
“I liked you, and the more I got to know you, the more I liked you” Harry said turning bright red, he had never told anyone about his true feelings for Cheryl.
“Oh okay” Cheryl said, wishing she didn’t ask.
“But it’s ok, I don’t anymore” Harry laughed, Cheryl laughing too. Pulling up to that flat she shared with Danny and Dougie, Cheryl became really nervous.

Cheryl slowly slide the key into the door of the flat, Harry had told her that Dougie would be gone for a few days. Walking into the flat she found everything was the same. She called on Danny but got no answer, he must be out she thought to herself. Heading upstairs to grab a few things Cheryl was shocked to find the bedroom floor covered with empty vodka bottles. Lifting the things she wanted she headed back downstairs. Sitting in silence she wonders where Danny was and if he was ok. A few hours later Cheryl feel asleep while waiting on Danny.

Danny awoke in Vicki’s bed, his head pounding, he groaned slightly as he sat up. Grabbing his clothes he put them back on and head out in to the cold air. Shivering he makes his way back to the flat. Once the flat is in view he is startled to find a light on, Dougie must have left it on he thought to himself. Entering the flat he was shocked to find Cheryl asleep on the sofa, heading upstairs he found a blanket and returned downstairs and wrapped it around her. He sat on the floor next her and sat for a few minutes looking at her, wondering why she was here.
“I love you” he whispered to her as she slept before kissing her on the forehead and heading into the kitchen. Switching on the kettle he stood staring out of the window as he began to sob. After making a coffee he sat at the table crying to himself. After sitting with his own thoughts for a few hours, Danny was exhausted but could bring himself to sleep, he wanted to wait until Cheryl awoke so he could talk to her. Sitting a little longer, Cheryl appeared in front of him.
“Hey” she whispered, unsure of what she should say.
“Hey” Danny mimicked her. Sitting down Cheryl smiled at Danny.
“How have you been” she asked, looking at a tired looking Danny in front of her.
“Umm…not so good actually, I miss you baby, come home please” he pleaded as a single tear rolled down his cheek. Cheryl stared at Danny as she thought about what he had said.
“I don’t know if I can” she sighed sadly as she looked at a distraught Danny.
“Please, I need you, you are the only person that knows the real me, all them horrible things I tried to forget about, you are the only one that knows, please, I am so sorry, I was messed up” Danny cried as he held onto Cheryl’s hand, never wanting to let go. Cheryl looked at Danny as he broke down in front of her, her heart breaking at seeing the man she loved like that.
“Okay, I’ll come home, but it’s not going to just going to go back to how it was, I need time, time to learn to trust you, you have to prove that I can, that means no going out drinking all the time” she said as she hugged Danny.
“I promise, I’ll never hurt you again, you are my life, I was stupid, it’s never going to happen again, I swear” Danny said as he hugged Cheryl.
“Good” Cheryl smiled, “I think you should get some sleep”.
“I can’t, he, he” Danny stuttered.
“Danny, everything is going to be okay” Cheryl soothed as she took Danny’s hand and led him upstairs.
“You cleaned” he asked as he entered the clean room, that was once littered with empty bottles.
“Yeah I did, just as well really, now that I am coming home” she smiled as she sat on the bed.
“Thanks, you didn’t have too” he replied kissing Cheryl on the lips before pulling away. Cheryl smiled at Danny before pulling the covers back.
“I’ll be right here, I promise” she smiled as Danny got into the bed, pulling the covers over his bare chest. Cheryl lay down bedside him before snuggling up to him, tracing circles over his chest as he fell asleep. Cheryl looked up to him as he slept peacefully she smiled and kissed his lips softly before lying back down and falling asleep too.
